Epitaph for Jean Maillard

Jean Maillard lies buried here,
Less a wide-boy than a queer
Who believed that if desire
Set a tutor's flesh on fire
Then a true-born Sorbonite
Could become a sodomite
Without any fear of vice
Because the action was so nice.
But, afraid that woman's lip
Just might let his secret slip
And so scandalize the rest,
Our good master thought it best
In case he was discovered
To ensure he was covered
By this fair expedient:
She could borrow him for rent.
