A Family Portrait

OH , ever gracious, wise, and good,
On Earth an Angel's pattern view'd!
Was ever in the path of life
So dear a Parent, Friend, and Wife?
The mirrour and the soul of truth,
With cheerful smile and grace of youth;
Though perfect in the moral school,
NOharsh dispenser of the rule,
But sweetly merciful, and friend
Of those who deviate or offend;
A mind with faultless judgment stor'd,
The wisdom fear'd, the heart ador'd:
In patriarchal age endear'd,
Belov'd, admir'd, and rever'd;
Of all her faculties possess'd,
And with a loving circle bless'd.
