The Great Discovery

Christofero had a mind
Facts were powerless to bind.

He declared that he had seen
Mermaids sporting on the green,

And the world, he used to swear,
Was not an orange, but a pear.

Little wonder then that he,
Blown across the unknown sea

On the quest of far Cathay,
Lit upon the U.S.A.,

And while seeking for the Khan
Met his first Red Indian.
