Heave Away

1. As I was a-walking one morning down
by the Clarence Dock: Heave away, my Johnny, heave away-ay,
I overheard an emigrant conversing with Tapscott;
And away, my jolly boys, we're all bound to go!

2 " Good morning, Mr. Tapscott, good morning, sir, " says she.
" Oh, have you got a packet ship to carry me over the sea? "

3 " Oh, yes, my noble young Irish blade, I have a ship or two!
Oh, one is the Joshuay Walker and the other the Kangaroo .

4 " Now, one is the Joshuay Walker and on Friday next she will make sail,
And the present day she's taking on board a ton of yallow male. "
( Or " a thousand bags of male. " )

5 One day as we were sailing through the Channel of St. George,
An ugly nor'west wind came up and drove us back again.

6 Bad luck to the Joshuay Walker and the day that she made sail,
For the sailors got drunk and broke open me trunk and stole all me yallow male!

7 When I get to Now Yor-ik I'll cross the say no more.
I'll marry some fine Yankee boy, stay all my life on the shore!
