His Mate

Hi-diddle-diddle,
The cat and the fiddle …

I raised my head
And saw him seated on a heap of dead,
Yelling the nursery-tune,
Grimacing at the moon …

And the cow jumped over the moon.
The little dog laughed to see such sport,
And the dish ran away with the spoon.

And as he stopped to snigger,
I struggled to my knees and pulled the trigger.
