A Hymn
I.
How great is he in men's esteem,
How worthy their applause,
Who makes distress his godlike theme,
And pleads the orphan's cause?
II.
To train up poor deserted youth
In virtue's lovely ways,
And make them serve the God of Truth,
Secures their rising days.
III.
They beg no learned arts from schools,
For useful knowledge cry,
To learn to live by Christian rules,
As Christians learn to die.
IV.
From great Jehovah, heav'nly King,
Who mercy hope to find,
Their grateful charity will bring,
Be merciful and kind.
C HORUS .
To God's high throne, where saints resort,
Our thankful notes we raise,
And in the church, his earthly court,
Proclaim th'Almighty's praise.
How great is he in men's esteem,
How worthy their applause,

And pleads the orphan's cause?
