Inscription, for the Pedastal of Marquis Cornwallis

Inflexible and steady courage,
A sacred fidelity in political trust,
Purity and singleness of heart —
A temper the mirrour of that purity,
A reflecting and well-disciplined judgment
in the most arduous conflicts;
A dignified simplicity of manners,
and the most elevated sense of honour;
every public virtue and spirit,
every gentle and graceful affection,
made him universally
admired, revered, and beloved;
The Ornament of his Country and the Age;
A Model to Posterity.
