It is Blessed to Live

'Tis blessed to live when is understood
The power of human brotherhood,
To hearten and raise in the darkest days
A drooping soul with a word of praise.

'Tis blessed to live when we come to know
The good that often comes from woe,
Though the dove that brings us healing flings,
A shadow oft with its brooding wings.

'Tis blessed to live in the glad sunshine,
And good to walk where the flowers entwine
In the early Spring when the young birds sing,
O life! sweet life! 'tis a glorious thing.

It is blessed, too, when we calmly feel
The peace of God with the darkness steal,
While over the earth with a silent sweep,
He draws night's curtain that we may sleep.
