It Is Summer

It is summer.
Let us go walking.
The sky is pale,
There is dust on the leaves.

It is summer.
I am tired of talking —
How golden the fields
With their stacks of sheaves!

The horse bends its head
Crowned with midges.
The farmer whistles between his teeth.
It is summer. I am tired of bridges
And all the water that flows beneath.
