Martial lib. 7. Epig. 59. Ad Iovem Capitolinum

Thou Swayer of the Capitoll, whom we
Whiles Caesar 's safe, believe a Deity,
Whiles thee with wishes for themselves all tire,
And to be given, what Gods can give, require,
Think me not proud O Jove , cause mongst the rest
I only for my self make no request:
To thee I ought for Caesar 's wants alone
To make my Sute, to Caesar for my own.
