They say the apple does not fall far
from the tree. But what if the tree took root
on a cliff face? As it goes, au revoir
to the gravity-stricken little fruit.
And the apple, never realized how strange
it was to grow up suspended above
the earth. Slowly, the bruise from the fall changed
into new roots, and so he fell in love.
Firmly planted into the solid ground
with branches reaching skyward, the apple
thinks of the tree to which he had been bound
fondly, with no resentment to grapple.
Why, if not for the fall from such a height
would his roots be so deep, his fruit so bright?
