The world is falling into its ever deeper slumber,
The cardinal's song is growing ever shorter,
The porch chairs where we once sat grow dirty,
Weary in disuse.
The waking nightmare is fading into the traditional one,
As we watch our heartbeats slow down
Into the great drumbeats of nature, pressing down on us,
A great blue whale with its cavernous mouth open.
