Because she liked rocks better
    than flowers,
they called her Stoneface and Hardheart.
For amusement, boys
pushed her off king of the hill.
Girls ignored her.
Men tried to use her
   as protection from rain.
As other women grew and blossomed
  sowed and reaped
     in deepening cycles,
she remained what she was.
Not interested in birth and death
but feldspar and chrysolite,
strong granite glinting mica,
and quartz
                   brown jasper
                            green bloodstone
                                   amethyst
