A Sky of Blackbirds

On this day,
a sky of blackbirds
above the marvelous oak,
after burying your lovely body
within its sprawling roots.

Seeking inner peace and quietude,
I look out to the horizon
wondering how to ever forget
your lips turning blue,
your pale eyes bulging,

the wonderful silence after,
making up for all the years you
screamed accusations at me,
as if I’d ever even think
of doing more that look at
another woman, but

now I just might
make up for that.
