“You’re a woman now"

A woman now? You counter the ideology, but not out loud.

I’m supposed to be a woman, but yet I still feel like a girl?

No one explains to young girls why bleeding red down your leg changes the game

No one cares to say that now you’re a women for men and boys, but not for you

No one bothers to consider why boys stay boys seemingly forever, but women become women the very moment they first bleed from there

You’re a woman now, but yet, you are so ashamed

Feeling displaced for being too young or too old to have have entered womanhood

Shamed by classmates for bleeding on the chairs, bus seats, and through your pants

Shamed by society for not having a surplus of “feminine hygiene products” to stop the blood from freely flowing

Despite these same products never being free or guaranteed

Shamed by teachers for asking to go to the bathroom one too many times in highschools spanning the country that bleeds red, white, and blue

Feeling barred from complaining about the burden from bleeding;  truly a monthly feat

The neverending cramps & pain that never seem to be enough for women ourselves to sit up and scream, “that’s enough -

I am strong, I am a giver of life to the girls, the boys, the men, and the women

I am Venus and Mother Nature; my blood creates the very humans who graze this Earth

I am these things because I bleed. Respect the process of womanhood. Period.”
