Throughout our lives,
Unbeknownst to our gods
In cahoots with our demons,
we gather skeletons in our closet
securing them under lock and key.
Outside of it,
For the world we present
our scrubbed faces, sunny smiles,
We decorate our homes
with wallpaper, lush carpet
and fresh flowers each morning,
We open our windows
to let robust sunshine in,
While the skeletons languish
in dust and darkness
never to see the light of day.
