Ode, An. To the Right Honourable Charles, Lord Halifax - Part 6
Oh Destinies! this Message understand,
To you I'm sent, by Jove's express Command;
He bids you now repining Thoughts forbear,
And for his new made Entity,
A lasting Thread prepare.
When thus reply'd the fatal Maid,
Thy Master's Will shall be obey'd;
And as she drew the sacred Twine,
These Accents warbled with an Air divine.
Mountague! of noble Blood,
Mountague! the Great and Good,
May thy Fame be ever growing,
Wit and Judgment always flowing,
Ever Happy! ever Young!
Thus she turn'd the Wheel and sung.
Her partial Sisters answer'd in their Time,
And join'd the Chorus in alternate Rhime.
Thus mighty Jove the noble Spirit blest,
And order'd Nature to perform the rest.
