You there: I here
And the wide sea that divides us
Divides, too, others from others—
As deep, as wide—
You then: I now
And the mornings, the hours between us
Others have lived—and the evenings
Others have seen.

You then: you there
But who will tell me the way now
To the glint of the wind in your hair
And your turning away?

You then
And how should I know you to find you
Now?—or here? I remember
Moonrise behind—

And I now
I have come by frogs in a garden,
By a wave, by the sway of a flower—
O, it was far.

I now: you Where?
Before the seagulls I saw you,
Before the rain. Are you there
Still? Are you gone?

I here: you then
And the days and the nights that divide us—
How shall we cross them again?
By what wind? On what tide?
