The Scene at Heaven Gate

Paradise on earth — that's the city of Suchou!
And the liveliest spot there is Heaven Gate.
Blue-green sleeves — three thousand beautiful women! —
ascend and descend the towers;
yellow gold — worth hundreds of thousands! — moves east and west
on the canal.
The market never stops doing business, even in the middle of night.
People speak dialects from all four directions,
no two of them alike.
If you asked a painter to do a picture of this place,
he'd surely say it was much too hard to paint.
