Sleep on Dear Baby

Sleep on dear baby thy mother leans o'er thee
Thy brother is Shot and thy father's at sea
I nothing can tell o' the fate all before thee
But God and his angels are talking to thee
Thy brother he fell in the heat o' the battle
Thy father may yet be alive on the sea
But thou'rt growing up for new toys & a rattle
For God and his angels are talking to thee.

Sleep on my baby thy mother bends o'er thee
Sleep on in her love babe a beautiful sleep
May the raptures of heaven and angels before thee
Make thee smile in my face and leave no cause to weep
This feather held oer thee will make thee to smile
This straw took away love would make thee to weep
But nothing but angels on infancy smile
So baby sleep on love in beautiful sleep
