Some weet so little of this earthly truth

Some weet so little of this earthly truth
They weart on seals that may in memory live
Some make a show of truth & so forsooth
Give falsehoods luck a better chance to thrive
As gamblers, by a counterfit, proclaim
Their credit with the many to deceive
& honest would bestride dishonest fame
By outward show for empty make believe
Long purses filled with trash & names begilt
With titled ornaments as if the pen
In moneys interest could make shadow[s] melt
With wisdoms garb to fashion gentlemen
Yet from thy heart let none truths gem purloin
Be thy friends true of false be truth thy current coin
Thoult find its essence after many days
When tablets wear the signature of time
& even foes subscribe their softend praise
Shadows to truth whose sun is felt sublime
