The jack[d]aws come & crowd wi merry noise
Around the village steeples busily
Rooks build their yearly towns while searching boys
Spy the lone calions nest on oddling tree
The patient ass from straw yard prison free
Picks up again wi little satisfied
The nettle sprouting by the cottage wall
Or grassy patches by the high way side
The cows untied from dirty winter stall
Ranges the mole hill common far & wide
& knip the short bite that is free for all
Oft reaching sprouting grasses by the spring
Glad of the bounty be it great or small
That suns & showers to winters wants may bring
