Springfield Mountain

(The Sally Type)

1.

On Springfield Mountain there did dwell,
A lovely youth I knew full well;
Ri tuga nuga nay, ru tuga nuga nay,
Ri tuga nuga nuga nuga, na di O.

2.

He took his scythe and off did go,
Down in the meadow for to mow.

3.

And as he mowed across the field,
A poisonous serpent bit him on the heel.

4.

They bore him to his Sally dear,
Which made him feel so deuced queer.

5.

" Why, Johnny dear, why did you go
Down to the meadow for to mow? "

6.

" Why, Sally dear, and didn't you know,
'Twas Daddy's grass and it had to be mowed? "

7.

At last he died, gave up the ghost,
To Moses' bosom he did post.

8.

Now young and old, a warning take,
And shun the bite of a rattlesnake.
