On a Steamer
Once
I went for an ocean trip
On a big steamer.
Its whistle blew
With a loud
A woo. . . .
When dinner time came
I didn't get off.
No —
I ate my dinner
Right on the boat.
When bed time came
I didn't get off
No —
I went to sleep
Right on the boat.
I had a little room
With a closet in it
Where I could hang up my suit
And my hat
And my coat.
And when I climbed into bed that night
And put my ear
Down — tight —
Then —
All at once —
I could hear
The engines go
Way far below
Throbadoba throbadoba
Never stopping
Always throbbing
Throbadoba throbadoba
Throba doba dob.
