Uncle Sam was very kind

Uncle Sam was very kind
He gave the people aid;
The W.P.A. is working hard,
Good roads will soon be made.

Lost Hope Hollow is needing work,
To help the folks along,
They gather there once a year
And sing the old time songs.

The Traipsin' Woman started it,
Folks come from far and near,
To hear the old time ditties,
It is delightful to the ear.

Lots of people cross the sea
To greet a happy day;
To hear the people play and sing
In their good and ancient way.

Our Singin' Gatherin's sacred work,
We open it with prayer;
Cities turn out to this place
Tens o' thousands gather there.

They come from Rowan every year,
Regardless of the weather;
For W.P.A. has made good roads;
Folks enjoy life together.
