Vision of Mankind, A - Canto Third, 1

CANTO THIRD .

My mind's eye, be dilated to the full,
 And gaze with penetration for a while;
Let no speck come upon thee, nor be dull,
 But clothe thy beacon with a sunny smile;
 Cast sloth away, or aught that would beguile
And dim thy lustre, spurn the power of sleep,
 And with an eager gaze resume thy toil,
Where I shall lead thee careful vigil keep;—
For through recesses gloomified and deep,
 I will conduct thee, till I do explore
A few dark bosoms where I wish to peep,
 And read the secret language of the core.
Then shalt thou have a transient rest again,
And I will thank thee in the kindest strain!
