Watching the New Moon, I Compose These Verses to Show to My Fellow-Travelers, Stranded with Me

Our first night on the long Huai river,
And a broken mirror shining out of the clouds
This evening for a thousand leagues or more,
A second moth is dazzling, water-born
So crystal-clear, peaceful as the sand,
So shining bright, as gentle as the waves
We gaze out homewards, everyone is weeping,
I am not the only one with a broken heart.
