The Wish to Miss Hannah Stockton

All health to thee lov'd nymph I send
With the best wishes of a friend
May every Jarring discord cease
And all your life be crown'd with peace
Fly evry painful thought away
That may her happiness allay
Begone each gloomy care within
Let all be peaceful and serene
As ever was her gentle breast
Till love and you disturb'd her rest.
If in some lonely walk she stray,
And with wondering eyes survey,
The beauties of the solar ray
Or waits to trace the milky way
May heavenly transport fill her soul
And every earthly wish Controul
Lend her some angel from above
Your golden harp and lute of love
And then in all the shady bowers
Like you She will employ her hours.
You Sacred nine her breast inspire
With sweet enthusiastic fire
Let nature smile where e'er she roves
And all the graces haunt the groves—
You that Skim the azure Sky
And fill the air with harmony
Descend upon the humble spray
And tune your softest sweetest lay
To entertain the virtuous maid
In her beauteous rural shade.—
Young zephyre on your rosy wing
Waft all the odours of the spring
With every other balmy sweet
To make her happiness Compleat.—
