Wishes

I wish I were an Emperor,
With subjects of my own,
And sat in royal robes upon
A splendid golden throne.

I wish I were a Muffin Man,
And rang a muffin bell,
And every day for tea I'd have
The ones I didn't sell.

I wish I were a Pirate Chief,
And sailed the stormy sea,
With lace and earrings and a sword
As fine as I could be.

I wish I were a Railway Guard,
With bright green flag to wave,
Watching the people catch their train
By such a narrow shave!

I wish I were a Drummer Boy,
And beat upon a drum,
And heard the crowd all shouting out:
" Look, here the soldiers come! "

I wish I were Aladdin, or
I knew some magic way
To make my wishes all come true
And not be only play.
