1. Thrice welcome first and best of days;
2. God's Sabbath my delight I'll call
Unto my soul thy morning rays
Of other days the best of all;
Resplendent shines and warms my breast;
From worldly labor I'll abstain,
O 'tis a day of holy rest.
And serve my God with might and main.
3. All earthly cares I'll bid stand by,
Whilst to my God I do draw nigh;
My tongue shall sing his praises great;
With joy I'll worship at his seat.
4. Unto his sacred courts I'll go,
That I his holy will may know;
O may my Jesus meet me there
And say, " Dear soul be of good cheer. "
5. Dear Jesus, when wilt thou remove
My soul unto thy courts above,
That I a Sabbath then may keep
Quite free from slumber and from sleep?
6. Haste, my dear Lord, and come away;
On eagles wings make no delay,
And fetch my longing soul on high,
That I may sing eternally.
