Light and Love, Hope and Faith

Light is made to shine in darkness,
Let us, in this world of woe,
Shine as luminaries; brighten
Dismal pathways as we go.

Love is sent to rout the hatred
Of a sad and sin-cursed earth;
Let us love and lift in kindness,
Through our Saviour, give it mirth.

Hope is born to cheer the faint heart,
'Tis the bright and morning star
To the weary, ladened pilgrim;
As he, trusting, looks afar.

Faith, a ladder, still is reaching
From beyond the beck'ning skies;
Charts the course of every Christian,
Leads us on to paradise.

Isn't This a Lovely Day

(T O B E Caught IN THE R AIN ?)

VERSE

The weather is fright'ning;
The thunder and light'ning
Seem to be having their way.
But as far as I'm concerned,
It's a lovely day.
The turn in the weather
Will keep us together,
So I can honestly say
That as far as I'm concerned,
It's a lovely day.
And ev'rything's O.K.

REFRAIN

Isn't this a lovely day
To be caught in the rain?
You were going on your way,
Now you've got to remain.
Just as you were going,

Fools Fall in Love

VERSE

Why do I allow my heart
To make decisions for me?
Why do I keep list'ning to my heart?
Why do I get so involved
When I would rather be free?
Maybe it's because I'm not so smart.

REFRAIN

Fools fall in love,
Only lunatics fall in love,
And I'm a fool.
Fools seek romance,
Only idiots take a chance,
And I'm a fool.
I should be able to put all my feelings aside,
I should be able to take one free ride in my stride,
But fools cannot play,

Always

VERSE

Ev'rything went wrong,
And the whole day long
I'd feel so blue.
For the longest while
I'd forget to smile;
Then I met you.
Now that my blue days have passed,
Now that I've found you at last,

REFRAIN

I'll be loving you,
Always.
With a love that's true,
Always.
When the things you've planned
Need a helping hand,
I will understand,
Always, always.
Days may not be fair,
Always.
That's when I'll be there,
Always.
Not for just an hour,

The Phoenix and the Turtle

Let the bird of lowdest lay,
On the sole Arabian tree,
Herauld sad and trumpet be:
To whose sound chaste wings obay.

But thou shriking harbinger,
Foule precurrer of the fiend,
Augour of the fevers end,
To this troupe come thou not neere.

From this Session inderdict
Every soule of tyrant wing,
Save the Eagle feath'red King,
Keepe the obsequie so strict.

Let the Priest in Surples white,
That defunctive Musicke can,
Be the death-devining Swan,
Lest the Requiem lacke his right.

And thou treble dated Crow,

Pretty Baby

VERSE 1

You ask me why I'm always teasing you,
You hate to have me call you pretty baby.
I really thought that I was pleasing you,
For you're just a baby to me.
Your cunning little dimples and your baby stare,
Your baby talk and baby walk and curly hair;
Your baby smile makes life worthwhile,
You're just as sweet as you can be.

REFRAIN

Ev'rybody loves a baby,
That's why I'm in love with you,
Pretty baby, pretty baby.
And I'd like to be your sister,

Love Me or Leave Me

VERSE

This suspense is killing me,
I can't stand uncertainty.
Tell me now,
I've got to know,
Whether you want me to stay or go.

REFRAIN

Love me or leave me
And let me be lonely,
You won't believe me,
And I love you only.
I'd rather be lonely
Than happy with somebody else.
You might find the nighttime
The right time for kissing,
But nighttime is my time
For just reminiscing.
Regretting
Instead of forgetting with somebody else.
There'll be no one unless that someone is you.

I'm Through with Love

VERSE

I have given you my true love,
But you love
A new love.
What am I supposed to do now,
With you now,
You're through now?
You'll be on your merry way,
And there's only this to say:

REFRAIN

" I'm through with love,
I'll never fall again,
Said " Adieu" to love,
" Don't ever call again,"
For I must have you or no one,
And so I'm through with love.
I've locked my heart,
I'll keep my feelings there.
I have stocked my heart
With icy frigidaire.

Golden Bough

Let it not be, love, underneath a roof,
Closed in with furniture and four walls round;
But we will find a place wild, far aloof,
Our room the woods, our bed the sweet-smelled ground.

There at the soft foot of some friendly tree
With grass and leaves and flowers we will lie
Where all is wide and beautiful and free—
Free as when love first loved beneath the sky.

No lock or curtain need we in the shade
And silence of the forest's inmost fold:
And none save us shall know where we are laid
Or guess what nuptial day those woodlands hold.

Sonnet: Leaves

Leaves of the summer, lovely summer's pride,
Sweet is the shade below your silent tree,
Whether in waving copses, where ye hide
My roamings, or in fields that let me see
The open sky; and whether ye may be
Around the low-stemm'd oak, robust and wide;
Or taper ash upon the mountain side;
Or lowland elm; your shade is sweet to me.

Whether ye wave above the early flow'rs
In lively green; or whether, rustling sere,
Ye fly on playful winds, around my feet,

In dying autumn; lovely are your bow'rs,
Ye early-dying children of the year;
