Rivers

Fair Danubie is praised for being wide;
Nilus commended for the sevenfold head;
Euphrates for the swiftness of the tide,
And for the garden whence his course is led;
The banks of Rhine with vines are overspread:
Take Loire and Po, yet all may not compare
With English Thamesis for buildings rare.

Fain I Would

Fain I would, but oh, I dare not
Speak my thoughts at full to praise her:
" Speak the best," cries Love, " and spare not;
Thy speech can no higher raise her:
Thy speech than thy thought is lower,
Yet thy thoughts doth not half know her."

Fortune

Eye-flattering fortune, look thou never so fair,
Or never so pleasantly begin to smile
As though thou wouldst my ruin all repair;
During my life thou shalt me not beguile.
Trust shall I God, to enter in a while
His haven of heaven, sure and uniform;
Ever after thy calm, look I for a storm.
