Love Letters

A ruffled sheet of paper,
and favorite cerise pen,
she smiles eagerly
and gets to work.

Scribbling down her words of affection,
her heart felt warm and tender.
Miniscule hearts cover the paper
like sugary icing on a cake.

She steadily folds her note into eights,
meticulous about every crease that she makes.
Apprehensive, she trudges up to the boy she admires,
her face flushed as she handed him the note.

In 6th grade on Valentine's Day I placed a Valentine card on the desk of the boy I had a crush on. Turned out to be an unrequited love. But I fondly recall the courage I had to put the Valentine on his desk. Your well penned poem brought back the memory.
