68th Weekly Poetry Contest winner: The Consumption of Plath

by tinabarnt

This fire,
extinguished many
times before,
burns deep within
and can no
longer be ignored.

I have given
them
warm milk
and tea and honey
and set them
off to play.

For it has been decided--
today is the day.

Noxious air
will soon consume
me and at
once I will be free.

There are those
who will cry,
flowers will wilt
in my name
but the ashes
will always glow.

And the bees--
they will remember,
for I am their
queen now
and forever.
