Texans sign rookie WR, but veteran Hopkins' deal offers more intrigue

While his signing had been little more than a foregone conclusion, there is one interesting aspect to Fuller's situation. Part of the reason the Texans weren't concerned about finalizing this deal is he's represented by an agency with which they're very familiar: CAA.

In fact, the teams' negotiations with CAA on Hopkins' contract are much more interesting. Hopkins is entering the final year of his base rookie contract and is looking for a long-term deal with the team.
This is the time the Texans typically offer extensions to their first-round picks. Since the new collective bargaining agreement in 2011, they've drafted Watt, outside linebacker Whitney Mercilus, Hopkins, cornerback Kevin Johnson and, this year, Fuller. Watt and Mercilus both signed extensions after their third seasons.
cheap NFL Jerseys The Texans picked up a fifth-year option on Hopkins' deal earlier this year, locking him in through the 2017 season (they did the same with Watt two years ago). But it would be unusual for him to play on that option-year deal. If it got to that, it would be a clear sign something was amiss in the negotiations. In fact, if Hopkins doesn't have a new deal by the start of the regular season, that will indicate a problem. Watt signed his deal in the first week of September 2014, and Mercilus signed his in the first week of May 2015.
It's a good bit of housekeeping for the Texans to have finished signing their whole draft class, but it's just that. Hopkins' situation offers much more intrigue.
