Adonis

Adonis rises, drifting with the tide, and falls

The while he's floating through the Sea-King’s weed-choked halls.

He's trapped forever, reaching for the golden sky,

Beneath dark crystal seas, where velvet forests lie.

Adrift upon the tide, the swimmer's buoyancy,

Detains him in the twilit garden of the sea,

His hair is mottled green and tangled by the tide,

Seaweed grows upon it and fishes dwell inside.

The barnacles and crabs, their jagged marks have left,

Where cobalt eyes gazed out, and chin was proudly cleft,

The visage and the form once made the young girls swoon,

Now they harbor shellfish, within a cold lagoon.
