Discern.
Sometimes its best done in retrospective
When time and distance
So often tell their tale
Of each partners significance and worth
Learn to tell the difference
Between the ones who wanted you,
The ones who loved you,
The ones who even in your absence
Show respect for the love and treatment once shown
Not as a reflection of your dignity
But that of their own
If they take the opportunity to cross you
Simply for the sake of opportunity
Or because your time is done,
Then they were never truly a loss
Simply a whirl of cigar smoke,
Burned and allowed to dissipate.
A bag of sullied waste.
Something not to be regarded,
Better off discarded
Before it spreads its rot,
Thrown away.
