A father sees a son in the locker room,
Basketball is hard, he tells him,
Be steel; be a rock.;
Brutes have been gentled when you win

Tell him the other guys are mean,
Don’t be gentle, don't go easy
Two much money in their contract,
It has turned them evil

Tell him to be alone in a bubble,
Be in the zone
To be a fool every so often,
To miss a dunk

Tell him to be different from other people,
To wear number 32,
To have lazy days,
To take a day off

Tell him that he must succeed,
To fight for his life,
As this may be it for him,
If he does not dominate,

Tell him that he has no money for a future
And as he has nowhere else to go,
Tell him to keep pushing on,
And he must make that free throw

Tell him to play basketball.
