In Mother Earth’s womb I germinate
waiting for the perfect moment
to timidly introduce myself.
Slowly I sprout, blinking in the golden
beams that nourish me from within
and I grow and bud and mature
into a symbol of innocence
untouched and pure.
White petals uncurl, give praise
to the sun which gave me life.
Giddy with the world, waltzing
in the gentle breeze that blows
over the hilltop I am glorious,
beautiful, returning His favor
with my simple charm and subtle scent.
I am wondrous and naïve
when I first meet him.
His nuzzling tickles me.
But then he attacks,
his proboscis driving deep
into my cavernous regions,
stealing my sweetness
leaving me
violated.
