Cheese!
I want to sink into the dimples of your cheeks,
a comfortable haven from the outside world.
I could fill them with buckets and buckets of my own joy,
never running out as long as there's space to fill.
But the frown you wear for so long
threatens to cut new crevices.
Extending down, where
light gets lost
before it finds
the ground.
New lines, where the joy I once poured seeps out like a river looking for an ocean,
instead falling
far between the cracks.
There is not enough left to sustain the flow,
but the canyon has already been formed.
