"Excuse me Miss,"
inquired the handsome man,
his silhouette casting a shadow over the book she was enjoying at her table outside the tiny cafe.
"I can't help but wonder why a beauty such as yourself is unaccompanied this afternoon."

She arched an eyebrow.
"Oh? What makes you think I'm alone, Sir?"

Ah, hard to get, he smirked.
"Apologies, that was presumptuous of me."
He glanced down at the hands folded in her lap. No ring.
"I can only hope he gives you every happiness you deserve."

A soft, gentle smile lit up her auburn eyes.
“Oh yes, he's very devoted." she assured her would-be paramour.
"Very affectionate as well, I have to admit he can be quite . . ."
Her smile turned more playful for an instant, "exhausting."

He tried not to huff at that. "A handsome devil, I'm sure," he prompted.

"I certainly think so." She agreed.

"So where is the lucky dog?"
He asked brazenly,
leaning close enough to catch the scent of her hair,
casting his eyes lazily across the expansive lawn of the adjacent park.

She whistled,
drawing the attention of an exuberant young canine who had been snuffling for insects.
As realization reared its ugly head
he heard her giggling quietly under her breath,
though she was kind enough to muffle her laughter once he met her eyes.

Ouch.

His eyes took on a teasing quality of their own
as he slipped her his card and breathed in her ear, voice pitched low,
"If you ever want a real man,
don't hesitate to give me a call."
