“Sweet little angel, don’t say a word, mama's gonna buy you a mockingbird. And if that mockingbird don’t sing, mama's gonna buy you a golden ring.”

I never got that mockingbird

I never got that ring.

I never had my momma to start with.

They think they have me

but I know the truth.

I know what they did.

This world has fallen to chaos

screams are all that can be heard.

The news is filled with murders, suicides,

and more along those lines.

I sit in a lab

where experiments are made on me

because of my oddly good nature.

“How? How is this possible?”

“I don’t understand.”

“These kinds of people died out long ago.”

“we have to protect her.”

That’s all I hear these days

and I’ve had enough.

I waited until night fell

then jumped out the window.

I landed on the ground

safely and silently

Than ran into the night.

What I’ve experienced,

is far worse than the stories I’ve heard.

What happened to the good days?

The days where mothers would sing lullabies to their children

instead of wiping them?

The days where we could get along

without having a war.

THose days where I was too young

to care about the chaotic world

that was outside my door?

I’m not sure.

I’m looking for others,

the ones with hearts still pure.

Who knows,

maybe one day I’ll get that mockingbird.
