High above the earth, the mighty mountain stands,
Standing for all to see it’s glory.
Never looking up only looking down,
To see who dare trespass on its territory.

Alone I stand before this great colossus,
As I begin to trespass my confidence grows and refuses to cease.
The closer I get the stronger I feel,
Feeling less like a man and more like a beast.

All fear and doubt I set aside,
I say to the mountain, “By the end of this day. I shall be the one looking down at you
Like David and Goliath, you are the giant and I the stone.
I will be the greatest anyone ever knew.”

The higher I climb, the more the Mountain resists.
As if growing taller and taller with each step took.
Still I push onwards toward the peak,
Despite my struggles, the Mountain still does bother to look.

I approach its mighty peak and nearly fall,
Far down into the chasm below.
I fight with all my strength, barely reaching the path,
Fear consumes me, but further on I must go.

The summit is in sight, I am nearly there,
I’ll be there within the hour.
Deep I dig for the strength to continue,
And summon all my power.

My lungs burn and my legs violently shake,
Ready to collapse at any second.
I refuse to quit, I refuse to surrender.
Once I reach the top I will become a legend.

Finally, I reach the mountain’s peak,
Falling to my knees I bask in the legend I have become.
Surely no one has come this far before,
Yet when I look up I immediately saw how little I have done.

Seven more peaks awaiting to be conquered,
Each one higher than the last.
Lined up like spines on a dragon’s back,
And the glory I once held drifted into the past.

Speaking aloud, “How naive I was?
To think that such a mighty Sentinel could be defeated.
Truly there is no one who can match you.
I was wrong, this day you are the one who has succeeded.”

Hiking back to the mountain’s feet, now humbled and humiliated,
Though everyone at the bottom thought so highly of me and wondered why I looked so hopeless.
They had no idea how hard I fought and how little I accomplished.
Yet through my whole trial, the Mountain never even noticed.
