Cold climate battles 
To get going mornings

Thick skin belies
Underbelly of
Vulnerability to
Predatory risk-takers

Flash defenses mean
Pursuers only
Catch the tail end
Of her showings

Intricate exterior
Indicates complexity
Of self-sufficient
Fringe existence

Lonely life is a
Defiant dance of
Survival and beauty
And unmasking the secret
