soul sorrows
we call them heartbreaks
but some are punches, some stabs
others are hairline cracks
fissures to chasm
our earth-heart splitting
molten emotional core revealing
i can recall every trauma
from the lips of friends and lovers
deception and lies
the partings that offered no goodbyes
the harms inflicted by personal failings
every blow and impaling
each break, crack, shattering
and though singular incidents
the suffering never ceases
and the platitude of time healing all wounds
a weak placebo
time doesn't heal any wound
we just cover old with new
becoming scarbrous
calluses forming over our spirit's soft skin
it is not old age that carries us to death
instead the truth becomes apparent
we can no longer take further breaking
and i feel the weight my thickened scabs
