I think I know the timbre of these Sirens,
The sonorous and soothing songs they sing.
Shimmering at the edge of the horizon,
A call to lose myself by following.

Tantalizing whispers tempting treason,
Hardly within the capture of my hearing,
Spiced and rich, the sweetness of their seasons,
Defying wisdom and trepidations clearing.

They would that I betray all reasonable fears.
They would that I abandon plan and duty,
Jettison the discipline of the years,
To hazard chance and venture absolutely.

Steadfast stand I off their distant shore,
Yet know that my resolve is weakening.
More than in my dreaming lies before,
And what has passed no longer in my keeping,

Yes, these Sirens beckon me along,
Every hour, in reach, their music swells,
And my sense of prudence too far gone,
Soon, I will surrender to their spell.
