SWEET RAIN

She just stood there in the pouring rain
Wet through, yet smiling at something
I offered to share my umbrella with her
She looked calm, almost transcendent
And becoming aware, gently nodded
Nestling close under that canvas roof
Almost as one, we then shared more
Peering out to see the town square
An empty, grey and wet afternoon
Left all to ourselves, no others there
Yet for me, such a pleasant event
That I do still recall to this very day
Was I not meant to fully understand
Why she was just standing there alone
Yet I’m still grateful for that moment
A universe is made of little memories
