I built a Tower of Babel in my mind
From Hyde Park to the Luxenbourg Gardens
I connected Timbuktu to Tampa Bay
On a tramway full of undressed people
On dopamine
Dressing their wounds
And when I was done I realized
All I’d done was opened
A side door to oblivion

So I started again
I built a Tower of Babel in my mind
And filled it with people from my high school
We all had hearths to keep warm
And the smoke was unbearable
I stepped onto a ledge
Where a man stared down
And he said, “Butterflies spend their lives in expectation, then flutter drunk”
I said, “It's all cemeteries of clover”
And I turned around
Back into the tower
To build another tower in my mind
