They said I was different because of me being dark,
They said I was different because I chose to wear a scarf,
They said I was different because I couldn't hear or speak, which made me strange,
Oh, for heaven's sake, when will discrimination be open to change?
They continued to say I was different because I stuttered to read,
And that I will never be able to lead,
So how dare you? How dare you even try to put me down!
You may question my ethnicity, But I want you to know that it won't change the fact that I’m still a shade of brown,
I’m not trying to in sort of way portray myself as being mean,
But I live in a society that is sadly covered in white sheen,
So I ask you again, when will discrimination be open to change?
When will we rearrange a world that is filled with segregated dorms,
No one chooses refugee camps,
Nor wants to sleep empty with stomach cramps,
No one wants to be beaten,
It a cry for help when I say, I haven't eaten,
Look around you and I ask,
Oh, for heaven's sake, when will this discrimination sweeten?
Why do you always think that you're better,
Yes, the culture is not the same,
As the indifference led us to walk down a path of shame,
Have you forgotten that deep down inside,
We all are the same,
So tell me,
When will discrimination be open to change?
