There once was a witch,
yes, a very clever witch.
She lived in a wagon of chains and bones,
Tapestries of horrified faces trapped in thread hung from the decaying walls.
While her spells could crush lives in a blink, it was her beauty that made your heart sink.
Slit eyes of blood red, hair of woven spider’s silk, skin of molten gold.
Yet with all her power, all her beauty, she only ever said six words.
Be careful what you wish for.
The once was a man,
Yes, a very a desperate man.
Who came to the wagon of chains and bones, seeking the witch of power and beauty.
He knelt trembling before her dark red gaze, sweat dribbling into his wobbling lips.
“Please. Please.” He begged, “I can’t live without her. I want her love. I’ve already given her my whole heart. Have her give me her heart, her love.”
The witch knelt down in front of the man, her silky hair tickling his face.
Her lips pulled back in wicked grin.
Teeth of jagged yellow were revealed, chipped and pointed.
The man pulled back trying to run, but the witch held him firm before he could reach the door.
“Be careful what you wish for.”
The man ran
Ran to his beloved, to see if it was done.
He found her kneeling in the grass.
Her hair unbound, flowing in the wind.
He fell behind her, gripping her shoulder.
He heard a faint sound.
A gentle sigh.
“For you.”
She fell on her bank, her face pale.
Blood drowned the earth black.
A hole carved in her chest protruded broken ribs that glistened in the starlight.
In her hand lay her sagging battered heart.
He sobbed dirty tears, gripping her body close.
Blood stained his shirt, his skin.
Over and over he muttered,
“Be careful what you wish for.”
